Laundry Mt. Adventures By: The Mama

                              Laundry Mt. Adventures
                                           By: The Mama

Come with me to the winter wonderland.  Peek through the frost covered panes.  What you'll see varies greatly from day to day.  On this particular day you'll find a land of adventure caught up in laundry mountain.  Children dance with glee as they throw baskets of laundry down the stairs.  Where it lands, nobody knows. The colors blend as they fly through the air.  A sock is transformed, through the eyes of a child, into an elephant's trunk.  As they loudly trumpet and the normal world fades away, the little one is rudely awakened from her nap by the older children's imaginations gone wild.  Yes, truly wild, for they're off on an African safari, in their playful minds.  What will they encounter?  Father's socks become poisonous snakes, shadows become a dark jungle with each sound turning into some mysterious animal that could pounce upon them at any moment.  Blankets and towels are slung over ropes and chairs to form tents that shelter the adventurous ones on safari.  Mother's skirts are slung over shoulders to drag their treasures home and little ones' pants are worn on their heads to shelter from the sweltering heat. Chairs are turned into jeeps that drive through the jungles, narrowly escaping dangerous predators.  The lights are turned off, to create the blackest night, the children are thankful for their Christmas flashlights...
Just what awaits them?  "See the tiger", the little one shouts! "My tiger!" yells the second in command.  What ensues is a struggle to show who is the strongest.  Who will overcome and who will be the victor changes by the hour, but is something that occurs no matter what adventure they're on.  The mother sighs as she realizes that the laundry mountain will have to wait for another day.  She quickly climbs the basement steps(a rugged mountain to the children) and calms a sobbing baby. She realizes that the afternoon will be long and potentially filled with cranky demands, thanks to the shortened nap.  Somewhere deep inside a smile starts to appear.  Then a laugh escapes her lips.  The baby smiles too, for her joy is often found in the smiles of those around her.  The mother thanks the Lord for reminding her, once again, for giving her all these precious, albeit loud, little adventurers.  Praying for guidance and patience to guide them properly. She is reminded of how empty her days would be without them.  Those hours when the Man of the House is away working by the sweat of his brow.  The bed would be made and the house would be clean, but who would bring her joy and laughter throughout the day? Who would try to baffle her with all the questions they could think up? Who would snuggle her and plead for more books to be read on those cold winter days? Who would take her on adventures that only their little imaginations could create?   She quickly heads for the stairs with the little one in her arms.  Bounding down the steps(mountain) with her strength renewed.  Which part will she play she asks herself.  The tiger, the hunter, the safari guide or the mother that keeps the peace.  Come what may, the lesson has been learned.  She is truly blessed and she has no time too lose.  These adventurous minds are little for such a brief time and may reach a stage where it's just not cool to take the parents on the adventures, that they don't want to admit they still have:)
There's no time to lose!  To Laundry Mountain we go, today and any day.  Where we'll end up, nobody knows...
