The Ground Opens Up...

Numbers Chapter 16 has a story that is not really included in most Sunday School material.  It is a story about the Lord having to punish wickedness in the camp.  He tells Moses to separate Dathan and Abiram from the camp, because the earth was going to open up and swallow them because they had sinned against the Lord.  Garrison and Elyssia were chosen to be swallowed up.  As you'll see in the pics, we chose a blanket for the reenactment of the story.  Caleb and I were Dathan and Abiram and we were supposed to have faces that were shocked.  I must have made a pretty good one, because Caleb is looking at me:).

The earth(blanket) opening up.

They've disappeared!

Is this a good shocked face?

We had a really full day today.  We started it off talking to my mom before starting school.  That's a good way to start the day:).  The kids did really well, even though Elyssia was trying some delay tactics and asking for extra recess time.  I posted a story this morning, but was feeling extra creative, so wrote another one to read to the kids in the afternoon.  I'll write it out here, in case I lose the paper, which is a big possibility around here...

                                            The Princess Seeks A Horse
                                         Meleah Holloway

In the land of Kinder lived two brave Knights.  Sir Garrison of Trail and Sir Caleb of Montrose.  They had a fair(meaning beautiful), but very demanding sister, Princess Elyssia.  She provided great amusement when she thought up sports and games to play, but great vexation of spirit when demanding her own way!  The fair princess was quite smart and provided much needed help for her parents by reading to the Knights and amusing her baby sister, the wee lass, Kiersten of Kinder.
One day, Princess Elyssia decided that she required a horse!  She managed to convince her brothers that they NEEDED one too.(If you're expecting a fairy tale ending, prepare to be disappointed:).  They approached the King and Queen with their request.  The father said, "No, we can't afford it".  The Mother said, ""We have no barn or fences."  The maiden took her plea to the Grandparents, King Lyn and Queen Pat of Fleet, with a newly hatched plan.  "If I get a horse I could deliver milk to the neighbors", forgetting the fact that the Kingdom had no cows, thus no milk to sell or deliver.  After much pleading, the Princess had to accept the answer of "no horse for now".  Her parents had calculated the cost and figured that she might have enough by age 45 if she saved her allowance and never spent any of it :).
This is not the end of the story.  The King and Queen were on an outing with the children, one wintry day, shortly before Christmas.  They happened to meet a Lady that owned some horses.  She told the King and Queen that it would please her greatly to teach the young Princess to ride(with a safety helmet, of course!)  There would be a small sum, which is to be expected.  This led to much rejoicing by the fair Princess of Kinder!
Without further ado, I now close my partially true tale...

Elyssia wanted to make something, so we worked on cards...

Simple, but I really like it.

My first time to successfully use embossing powder, although I think it still needs some work.

Same idea as the first one, just opens differently.
Then she wanted to paint.  She got tired of it after a short time and went on to something else.  I was thankful that we had leftovers to eat, so that I could finish this:

Shot # 1  The light above the chimney is cool, but it's not paint:).

Now there are two lights, but I liked the angle on this shot.

Different lighting, please ignore the lights from the flash.

I thought about adding a windmill, because there was room on the paper to put it on the other side of the tractor, but I tried a couple practice ones on paper and didn't like how they turned out.  It would've looked a bit cramped anyway.  I've had a bit of trouble with some of the paint being chunky:(  It is dollar store paint, so I have to say that overall it has worked out pretty good.  Will definitely look at a better quality paint for future use though.  Caleb loved it when the tractor was the only thing on the page, so I think that I'm going to give this to him for his Birthday.  Until then, the rest of us can enjoy it, cause I hung it above the mantel piece.  I never thought I'd enjoy it this much, but there's a really good feeling that comes out of being creative.  I had 4 of these frames that I got at a yard sale for 50 cents.  I was planning to put a picture of each child in one, but then Caleb broke the glass to one..  Elyssia said that she wants my horse picture, so I might use a frame for that and then put it up in the girls room.  Scott claimed the first painting, so now I guess I'll need to paint something that Garrison likes, so I can use the last frame:).
Scott picked up some books that I had ordered from the library after work today.  It's 20 to 10, so I can maybe get away with reading one before bed.  I had a short nap this afternoon, so we'll see how long I can stay awake.  Til next time...
