A Painting For Garrison...

This afternoon I felt like Painting.  I was just going to play around with some lettering, but Garrison made a request when he saw me pulling out my paint stuff.  Paint me an airplane, please.  I told him that he'd need to find me a picture of one that he liked.  Below is the finished painting, with a few added personal touches:).
It curls up when I do it on this paper.

Here it is in the frame.
I'll have to see if I can find a smaller insert, so that the tail of the airplane and the hanger aren't cut out of the picture.  Looking at it in the pictures, the wheels look like cherries:).  I had a lot of fun with it.  I tried to take pictures with different camera features, lighting, no flash, etc, but didn't like how most of them looked.  There's the light on the glass from the flash, which actually looks pretty cool.  If I could actually paint that, it would be like the sun.  My painted sun doesn't usually look that cool, so I need to practice before putting it in any pics.  I thought of clouds, but I watched this one training video online.  The guy said that many times people don't know when to stop painting and walk away.  Many people end up ruining the painting, because they keep adding and eventually it looks crowded.  I tend to be like that:)  Just one more thing... An hour later, I'm not really sure if I like the end result.  Instead, the painter said to walk away, come back an hour later and see if you still think it needs that extra feature.  I think that's a good plan.  Garrison and Caleb LOVE it, so that's really all that matters.  What do my readers think?

  1. Great job on the paintings Meleah. I enjoy drawing from time to time. Did a little painting a while back with oil paints and decided they were too messy for me. LOL Is that water colors you use? I should post a couple of my drawings on my blog too. :)

  2. Hey Lora,
You really should post some! This is the only way any of them will get seen by those outside our little circles:) Two of my paintings were oil, bust most of them are acrylic paint. It spreads fairly easy and dries fast. I'm not the most patient person, so it's nice to be able to move on to the next color quickly.
